Jose Fernandez tragically lost his life in a boating accident on the Florida Coast. The incident took place early Sunday morning, and investigators confirmed Fernandez’s death. 

A report by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission revealed that Fernandez had cocaine in his system at the time of the boat crash.

The crash occurred near the Government Cut, a jetty utilized by cruise ships and freighters. 

Multiple agencies, including the Miami-Dade Fire-Rescue and Coast Guard, were involved in investigating the accident. 

At 3:30 a.m. ET, the Coast Guard discovered the boat overturned on the rocky jetty. 

During a press conference at 10:30 a.m., investigators disclosed that Fernandez was driving the boat, with his DNA found on the throttle and steering wheel.

Ongoing investigations are underway, with officials noting that Fernandez was not the owner of the SeaVee boat involved in the crash. However, he was the sole athlete on board.

At the time of his death, José was living with his pregnant girlfriend, Maria Arias, who later gave birth to their daughter, Penélope Fernández Arias.
